A few weeks ago at a meeting of CEO’s, the speaker presented the US National Debt Clock. If you haven’t seen it, you must.
What became clear is that Congress, Congressional Leaders and the President are fiddling while Rome burns. While they pretend to address our financial crisis by debating whether to find $3 trillion or $4 trillion in cuts or additional taxes, our unfunded liabilities arising from medicare, social security and the prescription drug program already exceed $115 trillion. If you are reading this and single, you owe a bit more than $1,000,000. Family of four–$4,100,000. If you don’t have the cash, you can do what Congress does–charge it.
The real issue is not whether to employ cuts or taxation! The real issue is that we have a political system that actually does agree on one fundamental point. The most important job that members of the legislative and executive branch have is to get reelected, and that means appeasing those that fund their campaigns.
So driving home from this meeting I thought I would check and lo and behold, this URL was available. So I want to pose this question: “CAN YOU IMAGINE A UNITED STATES OF AMERICA MANAGED BY STATESMEN SERVING LIMITED TERMS INSTEAD OF BY PROFESSIONAL POLITICIANS?”
